Truck Accident Leaves One Dead in Garland
On February 3, 2023, an ice cream truck rolled over on LBJ Freeway. The drivers of two vehicles stopped to assist at the accident scene. The drivers were attempting to divert traffic on the icy road when a semi jackknifed and slid into them, resulting in the death of one of the drivers and leaving the other with serious injuries.
The truck accident claimed the life of 35-year-old Maria Trinidad Ortiz Gonzalez of Lewisville, Texas while a 52-year-old man was seriously injured. Garland Police Department officials say they are not blaming anyone because people are intrinsically good and want to help. Furthermore, they say there was likely black ice on the roadway that drivers could not see. First responders took the driver of the ice cream truck and the semi to the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Maria Trinidad Ortiz Gonzalez leaves behind two children who must now grow up without their mother. They have lost her emotional and physical support and income, so their lives will never be the same again.
